A Day in the Life of……me!

Happy Wednesday dear friends! Welcome to the first edition of A Day in the Life Of! I am so excited about this new venture on the blog and have a great list of authors that will be joining me. To start it off, I thought I should probably be the guinea pig. So here’s how it’s going to work. Every Wednesday we will see the life of someone (or something) new. It could be an author, a character, a pet, laptop, phone, anything. There will be pictures, discussion and hopefully fun! I hope you’ll join me every week on this exciting new series. And please, if there is an author you would like to see on here, let me know or let them know. I’d love to have them!!

A Day in the Life of.....

My life is pretty repetitive Monday through Friday, so I’m going to walk you through a day where I don’t have to think about work. Those are the most fun days right?

First I must disclose that I never get to sleep in. It’s not even because someone wakes me up, although our dog (Bella the beagle) and cat (Ivy, she’s still a kitten) do a good job of it sometimes. It’s simply my internal alarm clock. I’m usually up by 6:00, 6:30 if I’m lucky. Hubby? He likes to sleep, and will sleep until around 9:00 if you let him. Once everyone’s up, it’s breakfast time. You know what the most important part of breakfast is?

coffee

You guessed it. Coffee – medium roast. Can’t do the dark roast. Did you know they put hair on your chest!? And a flavored creamer. We usually have multiple kinds in the fridge – Peppermint Mocha, Hazelnut, French Vanilla, and Vanilla Caramel.

Next it’s time for bible time. I’m using this book for my daily reading and I amย enjoying it. I read a little Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm and Proverb every day. And at the end is a great prayer example about your children. My goal is to actually finish this book this year, and not get behind. So far I have goofed a day or two, but immediately caught up the next day. So we’re on track!

Throughout the day we all do different things. Baking is a huge part of my weekend routine. My daughter (she’s 15) and I are currently trying to master the art of decorating sugar cookies, so we will be making batches of them on a regular basis so we can practice. Here’s some of the ones we did at Christmas time. You can see our skill level is pretty low. It was our first time with royal icing, and we’re not very good at drawing faces (see the bear on the bottom left, well it’ll make you giggle!)

We love watching movies and yes, we may have a slight TV problem. This past weekend we watched football, and let’s just say it was not a good weekend for Pittsburgh fans. And then Monday the Pirates traded McCutchen, who is our absolute favorite player. My daughter’s reaction, well…..she’s never going to watch a Pirates game again. Ever. I may have shed a tear. Don’t judge.

We also love to play games. Board games, card games, word games, and yes video games. They are all fun and exciting in different ways. Lately we’ve been on a Dutch Blitz kick. Have you played that? It is super fun, but you really have to be on your toes, and your mind has to be sharp. Basically everyone is playing constantly and it can be a tad overwhelming. Especially for us old folk. {disclosure – I am not old in age, just in mind lol]

And of course there’s always time for reading, blogging, making memes, making grocery lists, cooking dinner, dishes, laundry…. you know. Normal house stuff! But I won’t bore you with those details. I just wanted to hit the highlights. I always end the day snuggled up next to hubby, my best friend and lifelong companion. Because there really is no better way to fall asleep ๐Ÿ™‚

Well my friends, I hope you enjoyed a little sneak peek into my life. How about you? What’s the most exciting part of your day? I do hope you’ll share and come back next week for a look at A Day in the Life of……..

  1. Good Morning, Jessica!!
I enjoyed reading your post today and getting to know you better. I too enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning. Some of the photos didnโ€™t appear, so Iโ€™m curious what reading program you are using for your daily Bible plan. Iโ€™m also currently reading through the Bible. Iโ€™m using a plan on the YouVersion Bible app.

    • The photos are loading!! It’s been years since I’ve played Dutch Blitz! I need to play that again! We’ve been playing Ticket To Ride. We played it at a church social game night, and my son has been hooked ever since. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Thank you for letting me know about that! We had Ticket to Ride at our last game night at church. I didn’t play, because I was deeply engrossed in a dutch blitz game, but it looked so fun!!

  2. Ellie

I enjoyed reading your post. Your life sounds similar to mine in that a lot of what you like to do, you do at home. My hubby and I are homebodies for sure! As for the most exciting part of the day, I think it might be getting the mail. I am so excited every day to see what treasure is going to show up in the mailbox. Iโ€™m always hoping for a letter, card, or bookmail.

Sorry about that trading issue. I want to laugh but I can’t laugh at your tears! Isn’t it funny how a day off makes us think about baking?

  4. Loved the post, Jessica! I admire your baking skills–I am no good at icing at all. But I do play a mean hand of Dutch Blitz! It became a favorite game way back in college, when most of our wing played it instead of studying. We all got really good at it that way! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your life!

I love this idea…I can’t wait to read this each week! How fun!
Hmm…what’s the best part of the day?! There are sooooo many good parts of a day! Books, we must always say books. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I think I like getting to know the people that are behind and around the books…authors, bloggers–like you ๐Ÿ™‚ , other readers…yep, so many good parts of a day! Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning! Enjoyed reading the new A Day in the Life of post. Keep them coming!

The best part of my day is when hubby and I get in the kitchen to cook/bake. He’s retired now (which I love) and we have time to plan and cook together. When you can sit down to a meal or a delicious piece of some scrumptious dessert that came out of your oven made by both of you, it’s the greatest thing.

  7. I enjoyed reading about your day! ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes I feel like my days are all the same, but then I end up having weeks that are very different from normal!
We also love games. And have played many games of Dutch Blitz. I keep finding it harder and harder to beat my girls. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Looking forward to meeting more new people through your blog.
    Have a wonderful day!

  8. I think I should come visit you. You could bake and make coffee (that I don’t drink but LOVE the smell of) and I could write. It’d feel like my own personal coffee house. Life… oh, so grand! WOOHOO!

  9. Loved this glimpse into your life! Why am I not surprised you love baking? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Dutch Blitz–yes! I’d play it a lot if my family enjoyed it more. It’s too wild for them, but that’s exactly why I love it. Haha!
