Friends, I am so happy to be sharing this amazing historical fiction novel with you today. Tracie Peterson – I mean she’s just amazing. I met her a at a reader retreat last year, and she is just so genuine, loving and sweet. She’s not shy about her faith and I have to admit that’s one of the things that draws me to her books. She is just so sweet, caring, and a joy to be around. Her books are the same way – like a warm hug from Tracie herself.

Wilson Porter is driven by a calling to work with the Shoshone people but faces constant delays from government officials. Then tragedy strikes, shaking his faith and causing him to question everything he once believed. Together, they're confronted with a daunting question: Will their shattered lives leave them with an uncertain path forward--or can love withstand it all?

My Perspective

My favorite thing about Peterson’s novels is how effortlessly she incorporates her faith threads. They just come across so realistic, genuine, and never preachy. They also speak straight to your heart both in a convicting and inspiring way. I always know I’m in for a treat when I started reading her novels.

The other thing I love is how she writes her romances. The chemistry is spot on, the romance is slow, but not so slow you lose interest. And then, it just happens. I don’t know if I can explain it, but when Laura and Will essentially figure it out, it’s just perfectly sweet.

In this story specifically, I was drawn to Will’s story. I can’t really say a ton because it will be a spoiler, but the growth he shows and the revelations he has are so inspiring. Many readers will relate to him as he has something truly horrific happen, and begins to question God and his own ministry. Slowly, over time, he starts to put some pieces together, and that’s where the growth comes in. It’s a great example of how we should and should respond to trials that come in our lives.

Once again Peterson has exceeded my expectations and delivered a story (and characters!) that will stay with me for a long time. There’s a reason she’s on my auto-read list! I highly recommend to historical fiction fans who enjoy faith, romance, and a little mystery.
