Bible Talk With Jessica – Day 71

Posted by abakersp in Bible Talk With Jessica / 1 Comment

Welcome to Bible Talk with Jessica! Today we start reading in Deuteronomy. We get a recap of everything that has happened with the Israelites thus far. I think it’s good to have a recap sometimes. It reminds you of what the Lord has done, and the mistakes that you’ve made.

Let’s get started!

Please note – I am not a pastor. I have had no bible training, gone to bible school, or anything like that. I do not consider myself a bible scholar at all. I am just someone who loves the Lord, loves reading the bible, and would love to talk with others about it. This is a place for me to do that. We may not agree on everything I post. I ask that all comments remain polite, and honoring to the Lord. I am just here sharing what the Lord lays on my heart, what I’ve learned, and what jumps out at me as I read. I hope you’ll join me in reading your bible as well and share what you’ve learned!

Scripture Reading for Today

Deuteronomy 1:1 – 3:20

Verse of the Day

So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

Deuteronomy 1:43

Bible Talk

During Moses’ recap of the events in the lives of the Israelites, he reminds them of all the times they rebelled against the Lord. In Deut 1:43, he is speaking of when they decided to go against the Lord’s will, and try to fight the Amorites. Turns out, things didn’t work so well for the Israelites when they did that, because the Amorites chased them away. Previous to this was when the Israelites sent the spies to check out the land, and they came back scared (all but 2!) because of the giants they saw. And so God said, okay you’re not going now. The Israelites, thinking they were so great, decided that they had sinned, repented, and were going to invade on their terms.

You see, the Lord’s timing is always the best. When we try to do things on our own, without Him, it always fails. I have learned this so many times in my life, much like the Israelites. I don’t want to wait for the Lord to provide, so I just go ahead and do it myself. FAILURE. Every time. You’d think I would learn my lesson, right? But much like the Israelites, I just don’t seem to lol. Very frustrating.

One thing that’s really spoken to my heart in reading my bible this year is how very important it is to wait on the Lord. It’s probably the most difficult thing for me to do, since I want everything in my own timeline. But that’s not always what is best for us. So instead of failing time and time again, I am really trying to wait on the Lord more. It’s not easy, and I have my moments of weakness, but I’d much rather wait on Him then to continue to fail. How about you?

What did you learn from today’s reading?

  1. Yep, you’d think we’d learn after all the moments in our lives where we failed cause we didn’t include God in the process. I tend to be a knee-jerk reactor by nature. I’ve been working hard, with God’s gracious help, over the last few years to tame that part of my personality. It is not easy, but I feel like I’m getting a little better. Of course, any progress I make is cause of God!
