Happy Tuesday reading friends! I have a special treat for you today. The lovely Stephenia McGee is here giving us some more tips on time travel. Man, wouldn’t it be cool if we really could time travel? There are so many places and time periods I would love to visit! But before we get to that, let me share more about Stephenia’s new release, Falling for the Fifties.

What would you do if you finally found Mr. Right…in the wrong time?

Maddie Palmer is done with dating. Internet matchmaking landed her one dud after another. Tired, frustrated, and finished with love, Maddie stays the night at a quirky Victorian bed and breakfast on the eve of her grandparents’ sixty-fifth wedding anniversary. When she suddenly wakes up in 1956, she gets the unexpected chance to witness her grandparents’ fairy tale love unfold and finally learn the secret to finding “the one.” But what is she going to do when she meets her own Mr. Right—only to discover he’s Mr. Wrong Time?

Nathanial Hall is set on one mission. Pass his training exam and join the Hurricane Hunters at Keesler Air Force Base. When he mysteriously finds himself on base sixty-five years too early, there can only be one explanation. He has to save the crew destined to die in Hurricane Flossy. But when a beautiful singer snags his heart and derails his carefully planned life, he has to decide if staying in the past is worth risking his entire future.

♥ The Back Inn Time series short novels are fun, faith-filled stories of what it might be like to suddenly experience life in a different time. These clean historical romances are packed with humor and adventure. Perfect for fans of dual timeline or time slip stories and Christian historical romance, these books answer the question every historical fiction fan wonders—what would it be like if I went back to that time? If you enjoy the wholesomeness of Amish, Western, or frontier fiction and adore romantic comedies, then a visit to a seaside Victorian inn where you can “step back inn time and leave your troubles behind!” is for you.

My Perspective

I am really enjoying this series, and this installment was even better than the first. I think it’s because of the twist in this book – when the main characters time travel, they don’t do it together. In fact, they don’t even meet each other until they are in the historical time period. It was completely unexpected, and I found myself just reading. And reading. And reading. I wondered who would give themselves away first.

I imagine it’s hard enough to time travel and try to act like you belong in that time period. When Maddie was asked to sing, I wondered how she would pick the right songs. I know I couldn’t do it!! Then when she somehow managed to get Nathanial to help her, I knew one of them would slip up. Two people on stage, performing songs that better be from that time period or before? Yeah, something is bound to happen. You’ll have to read to find out if they get through it or not 🙂

McGee writes such sweet stories. They make me want to go back in time and perhaps try and see what my family members were doing. You can see her creativity as an author shine in this book, well the series really. In my opinion, pulling off a time travel book is not easy. First you need to be able to write the how – McGee does this easily. Then you need to immerse the characters in a natural way – McGee does this flawlessly. Then you need to bring them back to the present day – McGee does this seamlessly. I honestly cannot wait for the next in the series. Actually, I hope it doesn’t stop for awhile!

Readers who are looking for a light, easy, quick read will enjoy Falling for the Fifties. And while it could be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the first book in the series as well. You’ll enjoy that one too! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Modern Gal’s Guide to Unexpected Time Travel: Younger versions of your relatives

Hello and welcome to your room at The Depot, where you can “Step back inn time and leave your troubles behind!”

In the event that your room comes equipped with a time slip feature, we’ve put together a few pointers to help you navigate your experience. These tips are meant to prepare you for your adventure and help you make the most out of your trip.

Chapter Two: Meeting Relatives

You’ve chosen (or maybe happened upon) a Family Mishaps Room! Here are a few things to keep in mind should you find yourself interacting with relatives a few generations earlier than you expected.

  1. Pick a new name. Nothing will land you in the nuthouse quite like telling your twenty-something grandparents you’re their grandchild come to call. Until you settle in, it’s best to keep such world-shattering news to yourself.
  2. Dress appropriately. No lady would be caught dead out in public in her workout clothes. Heels and hair, ladies! And don’t forget that lipstick.
  3. Refrain from altering the timelines and upsetting the natural order of things…if you can. While it may be tempting to rewrite history, do keep in mind that any changes you make could drastically alter the timeline in which you exist. We wouldn’t want anyone erasing themselves, now would we?
  4. Don’t attach to the locals. Remember, your stay in the past is temporary. Any romantic attachments formed with locals are entirely at your own risk. Side effects include decades of aging by one party upon return.
  5. Observe carefully. Here’s your chance to see the truth behind all those old stories for yourself. Just remember that anything you say can be used against you and timeline alterations have been known to force adjustments to your travel schedule.

We know you have many options when looking at time travel, and we thank you for choosing The Depot for all your romantic adventures. Do keep in mind there are no refunds or exchanges, and we cannot guarantee the time, location, or duration of your trip. And as always, finding your way back to your room at the inn is up to you.

Have fun and good luck! We’ll see you when (hopefully) you return!
