A surprise homecoming tests the bonds of sisterhood as a hidden past comes to light . . .

Disgraced eldest sister Claire Summers has been living in exile as companion to a stern great-aunt in Scotland. About to lose her place and longing to be reconciled with her estranged family, Claire sees an advertisement from someone looking for a "respectable female partner" in a Sidmouth boarding house. Is it a sign? She answers the ad, hoping she has not made another reckless mistake. When she meets the handsome, secretive proprietor, she wonders what he's hiding and if he's any more trustworthy than the nobleman who betrayed her years ago. Claire is drawn to him even though she fears he will reject her when he discovers her genteel façade hides a less-than-respectable past.

Meanwhile, the Summers family learns their great-aunt has died and Claire has disappeared without a word. The sisters rally together to find their lost sibling, but will their unexpected reunion heal old wounds and rekindle their bonds . . . or deepen the divide?

Return to the captivating Devonshire coast as the Summers sisters navigate romance, second chances, and the enduring strength of sisterhood in the face of adversity.

My Perspective

The Seaside Homecoming is a story of love, forgiveness, new beginnings, hurt, and so much more. Klassen easily brings me back in time with her beautiful descriptions, charming characters (and some not so charming!), and dialogue. Fans of Little Women will devour not only this book, but the entire series as well.

I think the thing I enjoy most about this book was the way Klassen made the characters so relatable, even though there are many years between them and me. Sure, I’m not working in a boarding house, but I could still relate to the troubles that Claire had. I enjoyed watching her character grow sort of into her own person, and I especially loved the scenes with a cute little girl in them! Claire had a lot of hurt – from family mostly, but also from a potential love interest. I learned a lot from how she handled situations that I can apply to my own life – something that I don’t admit lightly. But it goes to show you Klassen’s talent. Making lessons from a historical time period relevant to today’s world.

The other thing I love – the themes in the book. Yes the romance was wonderfully written. I knew from the moment Claire and Mr Hammond met that I wanted them to spend lots of time together. There was something mysterious and intriguing about our leading man, and I was delighted as I found out more about him as the story went on. But the themes of faith and forgiveness really resonated with me. Forgiveness is a hard pill to swallow, and Klassen didn’t take it lightly with the characters which I appreciated. It was realistic, heart felt, and wonderfully presented.

Historical fiction fans, romance fans, and fans of sister stories will delight in this series from Klassen. Though I would love to spend more time in Sidmouth, I know Klassen will be bringing more fantastic settings in the future.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
