How I Keep Track of Books I’ve Read

Welcome to Wondering Wednesdays, a weekly post to learn more about me and other bloggers đꙂ If you’re a blogger, please join in every week!

Today’s questions is – How do you keep track of books you’ve read?

Honestly, the only thing I do is Goodreads. I know there are so many other apps out there, and other ways to keep track, but for me Goodreads is easy. I like easy lol. You just go in, search for the book, and mark it as you’re reading, or you’ve already read it. You can give it how many stars you want, put the book on different shelves (I am slowly trying to create many shelves for future reference for Top Ten Tuesday posts), and write your review. You can see what your friends are reading, and even enter contests. For the record, I have yet to win a Goodreads contest, but it doesn’t stop me from trying!

There is a way that you can link to Goodreads when using your Kindle – both for marking books as reading, but also (I think, don’t quote me) to mark your favorite quotes. I have yet to figure out how to do this, so if you know, please share!!! I would love to learn. Let’s just hope I don’t click on a paperback and expect the sentence to automatically become highlighted ?.

I also have to keep track of books I need to read in the future because of launch team requirements, or street team and blog tour requirements. I’m old school here – I just use a monthly calendar. I know I need to get into the current times, but I have yet to find a system that really works for me. I’ve tried a digital calendar. I just found it annoying. I’ve tried Trello. Yeah I wasn’t getting the notifications at one point and then just lost all track of what was happening. I should try it again because I like the features – putting a checklist with every single book. Then you can check them off as you complete them and not forget anything. Love it!! But…..because I wouldn’t remember to open the app, I would miss out on stuff. So my friends, if you have a method that works great for you, I would love for you to share with me. Either in the comments, by message on social media, or by email. I want a better way!

Next I’m working on putting all the books I own on an app on my phone so I don’t accidentally buy something twice, which I’m pretty sure I’ve done a time or two. It’s going to take me FOREVER!!! But I think it’ll be worth it in the end. And that’s about it. Goodreads for those read, calendar for the blog/social media schedule, and this new app for the books I own.

What about you? How do you keep track of your books and which ones you’ve read?

  1. I use Goodreads too. I confess when I was a kid I used to keep a list on paper of the books I read! ? LOL. One thing I must say about Goodreads, though, is that I do not like doing the reading challenge. I feel it is too stressful! ?

    • Oh my goodness that would have taken tons of paper!!! But honestly I love paper, and so it wouldn’t totally bother me ?

Every year I set a goal for the reading challenge and every year I am nowhere near it. But that’s ok. I rarely check the status lol.

    • Oh I do that too!! One of these days I’ll make folders for different genres. But so far I only have two – read and unread.

I use Goodreads and have lots of “shelves” there. That’s where I type my initial review and copy and paste there. But I am way old school , I use notebooks! One for upcoming books on my review list and another where I hand write my reviews. And oh so many more for ebooks I want to purchase and Reading challenges etc. I just started Library Thing but find it not as easy to use as Goodreads. I mainly use it for the books I have read and as another place to post my reviews. Although I have won more books in their early reader program than on Goodreads. I hadn’t won anything on Goodreads for three years and suddenly won a new release by Melanie Dickerson. Their supply from publishers has gone way down.

    • I never thought about handwriting my reviews, but I have to admit it’s intriguing. I do have a notebook with me as I’m reading so I can jot down notes. When I remember lol. I love Melanie Dickerson! How cool that you won (finally!).
