Welcome to another day of A Baker’s Perspective Blogging Celebration!!! If you’re new here, make sure you visit the previous blogs to enter the giveaways!
Today I just have one question. Do you ever wish you could travel back in time? Well, since it’s not actually possible, we can read about others who time travel in Stephenia’s series – Back Inn Time. Though I haven’t read all of them (I have some catching up to do!), I have LOVED the ones I have read! And you can win a signed copy of the first four books (Sorry – US only, international peeps will get an ecopy if chosen as a winner)!!

Q&A With Stephenia
Hello Stephenia! I’m so happy to you have on the blog today 😊
Let’s start by telling readers a little bit about yourself.
Hi! Thanks for having me. In between writing my long historical novels, I go off on time travel adventures. Well, in book form anyway. I now have 7 books featuring a time-traveling inn that whisks unsuspecting travelers off on romantic adventures throughout history. We make stops from a Medieval castle to an air base in the 1950s and, most recently, even brought a Southern Belle from 1864 to the future. I’ve really loved writing the Back Inn Time Series and exploring the idea of what it would be like to visit the eras I’m always researching.
What led you to write in the genre you’re currently writing?
I love history. Whenever I’d be knee-deep in research for a book, I’d start thinking about what it would be like to visit that time and see it for myself. The customs, the fashions, the food. How would I really react to the sudden loss of modern plumbing? Those musings sparked the idea for a book series a little like the old TV shows Touched by an Angel meets Fantasy Island. A time warping inn where a mysterious lady sends her guests back “inn” time for a little personal growth…and of course romance.
Were you a big reader and/or writer as a child?
Oh yes. I was the girl who took a paper grocery bag to the library and maxed out her card to fill it to the top. My mother would take me to the library every other week when the books were due back and I’d have read each one, ready to fill my bag again. I was carrying around Jane Eyre as a 5th grader, and I wrote my first story using all the words on my 1st grade spelling list.
What book(s) had a big influence on you growing up? How about as an adult?
I loved the House of Winslow series. I read all of them, enjoying following a family through history. As an adult, I read a lot of genres and love when an author can create adventures for me to enjoy. I find that I always learn something from everything I read.
How do you try to incorporate your faith into your stories?
I once had a publisher tell me my books would be marketable if I took out all the Jesus stuff. I laughed, and we parted ways. For me, without Jesus there are no stories.
Not only did He provide me every breath I take and every moment of writing time, but He also gifted me with a vibrant imagination and a talent for storytelling.
He is the Hope that shines through in characters’ lives as they learn to love and trust Him more. He’s the inspiration in my heart urging me to share His light and truth with others.
I write Christian fiction because there is nothing else I can write. My heart belongs to Jesus, so He influences every motive, every plot, and every word on the page. That doesn’t mean I use fiction as a pulpit. There are no sermons. Just real people with real problems who rely on God to get through their trials.
I am so glad you kept Christ in your stories!! Now some fun questions:
What’s on your TBR right now?
Oh no. Did you just ask me that? Do I have to admit to my habit of buying books a million times faster than I can read them? Let’s see… the last 3 of Jamie Jo Wright’s books, the last 4 (oh gracious I’m so far behind) of Joanna Davidson Politano’s books and, oh I don’t know, a couple dozen others. There’s a literal shelf on one of my many bookcases filled with books to read. That’s the paperbacks. I have a kindle, too. There’s a few hundred on there. I’d say at least 50 or more I’m itching to read and haven’t gotten to yet.
Um….. I may or may not have the same problem lol.
Coffee or Tea (or something else!)?
Both. =) I’m a Southern gal, so iced sweet tea is a must. But I can’t function in the morning without a steaming cup of coffee.
Favorite snack?
Homemade cheese straws. My daddy’s are the best. If you aren’t familiar with those, they are crispy bites of cheddar goodness far superior to a Cheez-it.
Favorite read from 2025?
Oh no. Not again. What’s with the tough questions? Ha ha. I can’t give you just one. I recently finished Lisa T. Bergren’s Oceans of Time series (a sequel to the River of Time series, which I loved. Time travel, valiant knights, and spunky women? Yes, please.) and the other day I started Pepper Basham’s newest Grace and Freddie book. I adore Grace and the mysteries she always finds herself in. Those are my favorites from over the summer. So far. Best I can do. Sorry. LOL.
Listening to any great podcasts right now?
There’s a bunch of great ones, but usually I’m listening to an audiobook instead. I generally do this with my hubby, so that’s an entirely different TBR list. We usually listen to silly fantasy books together. He especially likes the ones where people end up living in video games. See, I told you. Lots of genres.
Favorite TV show?
Honestly, I don’t watch a lot of TV except for sports with my family. We watch mainly baseball and football. My hubby does like the Chicago shows (Fire, Police, and Med) and occasionally we watch those.
And finally, favorite bookish quote?
“I guess there are never enough books.” ―John Steinbeck.
Thank you so much for chatting with me today! I loved getting to learn more about you!!
Thanks so much for having me over! It’s been great.

This author sounds amazing. I love the story about walking away when she was asked to take out the “Jesus stuff”
Stephenia visiting the library as a youngster sounds just like me. We would go to the library each week and bring home a stack of books, read them all, and do it again the next week. Thanks for the great interview.
Stephenia H. Mac Gee is a great author. I haven’t read her time travel series, and would love to! They sound amazing! I relate con her about buying more books that I can read and always growing my TBR more and more!
These books sound like ones I would enjoy reading as I enjoy time traveling stories.
