Bible Talk With Jessica – Day 78

Welcome to Bible Talk with Jessica! The talk continues!! Anyone else every wonder if Moses has to take water breaks while he was talking!? LOL

Let’s get started!

Please note – I am not a pastor. I have had no bible training, gone to bible school, or anything like that. I do not consider myself a bible scholar at all. I am just someone who loves the Lord, loves reading the bible, and would love to talk with others about it. This is a place for me to do that. We may not agree on everything I post. I ask that all comments remain polite, and honoring to the Lord. I am just here sharing what the Lord lays on my heart, what I’ve learned, and what jumps out at me as I read. I hope you’ll join me in reading your bible as well and share what you’ve learned!

Scripture Reading for Today

Deuteronomy 26:1 – 29:1

Verse of the Day

And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God:

Deuteronomy 26:10

Bible Talk

God wants to be first. In our money, time, devotion, heart, everything. The Israelites were to give the Lord the first of their crops, their animals, their sons. I believe it may have been second nature and automatic for them to do that. I don’t think they were negative about it either (although they were human and I’m sure some of them had their moments).

How about us?

Do we put God first in every area of our lives?

I’ll admit, this was and continues to be a struggle for me at times, in so many different ways. From the time I was little, I wanted a family of my own. A husband and children to call my own. When that happened, I was beyond the moon happy. I loved my husband and child more than anything in the entire world. Over the years, this has been a constant struggle. They are always first. Always. But God wants me to put Him first. And I struggle with that. My husband and my daughter are my world. I will do anything for them. But put God before them? Oof, that’s a hard one. Something I’m still working on to be honest.

Time can also be a struggle. If I am to put God first in my time, then I should spend the very first part of my day with Him. But I don’t. I take care of the animals, eat breakfast, a few odd things, and then have my bible time. Something I want to try and work on, is just acknowledging the Lord as soon as I wake up. Even if it’s a simple hello and thank you for today kind of thing. I want to put God first, and the only way for me to do that, is to literally start doing that!

And finally, finances can be hard sometimes. When I was working and had a paycheck coming in, my first check was not to our church. I paid the bills and then wrote my check to church on Sunday. We do the same amount every week, so I knew it was coming. But ya know, why didn’t I just write those checks first and set them aside until Sunday? It may seem silly, but it would be a way for me to put the Lord first. I get paid, I set aside my portion for the Lord, and then I pay my bills.

I think all of us struggle with putting the Lord first in one way or another in our lives. I’ve come to the conclusion that if I start putting God first in the little day to day activities, it’ll be easier to put Him first when the big stuff comes up. I hope you’ll join me in that!

What did you learn from today’s reading?
