Happy Tuesday reading friends! I have a special treat for you today. The lovely Stephenia McGee is here giving us some tips on time travel. Man, wouldn’t it be cool if we really could time travel? There are so many places and time periods I would love to visit! But before we get to that, let me share more about Stephenia’s upcoming release, A Wagon Trail Weekend.

It was just one night at an old seaside B&B. Until they woke up in 1857.Collette Donaldson never should have taken her boyfriend to her cousin's wedding. Or introduced him to her parents. After a disastrous weekend, all she wants is to get back home and sort out the mess that had once been her relationship. A heartbreaking fight, a flat tire, and an inconvenient storm leave her and Seth no other option than to stay the night at a quaint bed-and-breakfast. But when Collette finds an antique photograph of herself, circumstances quickly shift from weird to unimaginable. Seth Stone was ready to propose. Now he isn't sure he even has a relationship. Circumstances are bad enough when he has to spend the night in a creepy old Victorian inn, but they get far worse when he wakes up on a wagon train in 1857. As Seth tries to figure out how to get them home to the present, he realizes that the only way to survive this strange past is by facing their own.

My Perspective

I found myself easily immersed in the lives of Collette and Seth. From the spare tire, to the spunky (or I pictured her kind of like a hippee) lady at the inn, I was intrigued by how their relationship would continue, and how in the world there was going to be a time travel event. I was pleased with how McGee handled that. It was seamless really, and felt natural. Like it might have actually happened.

But what I loved about the story even more was Collette and Seth’s walk with each other. You learn early on that they come from different walks of life, and yet that was never a factor for them. Such a great message for readers today. Even more important was the fact that McGee brought a unique idea to the table. When couples are in trouble, send them back in time. Make them interact with historical people, try to fit in (boy I giggled with the wagon tire scenes), and figure out a way back. Not a way back to the present, but a way back to each other.

This was a quick read, and I hope the rest of the stories in this series will be just like it. A delightful read that puts a smile on my face! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Modern Gal’s Guide to Unexpected Time Travel: Wagon Trains

Hello and welcome to your room at The Depot, where you can “Step back inn time and leave your troubles behind!”

In the event that your room comes equipped with a time slip feature, we’ve put together a few pointers to help you navigate your experience. These tips are meant to prepare you for your adventure and help you make the most out of your trip.

Chapter One: Wagon Trains

You’ve chosen (or maybe happened upon) a Wagon Train room! Here are a few things to keep in mind should you find yourself in on the prairie in 1857.

  1. Pack sensible shoes. On this excursion you will be hiking several miles a day across scenic terrain of wide open spaces without a settlement in sight! This invigorating pace has been known to wear out some feet, so be sure to pamper yours properly.
  2. Bonnets and long skirts are a requirement. Not only do these fashionable 1800s pieces make you blend right in with the locals, they keep you out of a heap of trouble. Hair up, ladies!
  3. Get ready for an authentic experience! We offer full emersion into the wonders of life on a wagon train by not hindering you with modern conveniences such as toilets, showers, or filtered water.
  4. Bring on those cooking skills! Worried you have too many pre-packaged and fast foods in your diet? For the duration of your stay, you’ll get to prepare every meal from scratch using only the most basic ingredients. You’ll get to churn your own butter, chase your own chickens, and knead dough by hand.
  5. Get an up close look at wildlife. Have you ever wanted to see a herd of buffalo? These majestic creatures can be seen grazing right along your trail. Just be careful not to cause a stampede, as that has been known to force adjustments to your travel schedule.

We know you have many options when looking at time travel, and we thank you for choosing The Depot for all your romantic adventures. Do keep in mind there are no refunds or exchanges, and we cannot guarantee the time, location, or duration of your trip. And as always, finding your way back to your room at the inn is up to you.

Have fun and good luck! We’ll see you when (hopefully) you return!

If you could time travel, where would you go?

Would love to be able to go to places like Washington D.C. before it was so crowded that vacations are too stressful to go there any more. Really any where in the United States to see the beauty of this nation before it became commercialized and made into tourist traps.

I would love to time travel in Jesus time. Would it not be amazing to be Peter and to be able to say this?
“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way , and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
Then after that maybe in the Victorian days.
