Welcome to Bible Talk with Jessica! Today we continue hearing from Moses in how the Israelites are to live and the rules they need to adhere to.
Let’s get started!
Please note – I am not a pastor. I have had no bible training, gone to bible school, or anything like that. I do not consider myself a bible scholar at all. I am just someone who loves the Lord, loves reading the bible, and would love to talk with others about it. This is a place for me to do that. We may not agree on everything I post. I ask that all comments remain polite, and honoring to the Lord. I am just here sharing what the Lord lays on my heart, what I’ve learned, and what jumps out at me as I read. I hope you’ll join me in reading your bible as well and share what you’ve learned!

God wanted the Israelites to remember what had happened to them. He wanted them to remember how they were treated. Where they had come from. What they had been saved from. I think this was for a few different reasons. He wanted to make sure the Israelites didn’t allow the Amalekites to intermingle with them. He maybe didn’t want the Israelites to treat others as they had been treated in the past. Perhaps it was so history didn’t repeat itself. Or to remind them how thankful they should be for where God brought them today.
Today we live in a world where people are trying to erase the past. Anything that’s negative they are simply wiping away. From textbooks, from statues and monuments, from history. The thing about the past is that you cannot change it. You cannot erase it, no matter how hard you try to get it out of current society. It happened. We weren’t there, and there’s nothing we can do about it.
But…….
We can learn from it. If I’m being honest and blunt, I think it’s a bad idea to erase the past. The next generation is going to risk repeating it if they don’t read about it. They won’t understand how far our country has come if they just see the current society. They won’t see the reason we shouldn’t do certain things or act certain ways. But if we teach them about what happened, and show them the consequences of actions that people took, maybe they can learn from it. Maybe they will want to do better.
God didn’t want the Israelites to forget. I don’t think He wants us to forget either. I think He wants us to learn. To be better. To be more Christlike.
