AmazonThere’s more than a hundred witnesses in the room, but no one sees who shot the newspaper reporter. If not for an offhanded bet, Morgan and Charity would never have gotten involved; he’s not one to let a friend down. The truth of who and why DeeDee’s big engagement is wrecked might never be known if they hadn’t, and it still may not be if the Lowells can’t get the right man elected governor of Texas. Crooked civil servants and politicians who think they’re above the law thwart their every effort. It’s a historic mystery wrapped in redemption, love, politics, and coercion at the Cow Palace.
Interview with Caryl
Hi Caryl and welcome back! I’m so happy to have you visiting again today!
Hey, Jessica! Thank you for inviting me to your blog today and for sharing my new release COERCION at the Cow Palace! I’m really enjoying the new Cross Timbers Mystery series.
Let’s get right to the questions. What’s your go-to bible verse during times of difficulty?
To tell the truth, I haven’t many difficulties in my latter years. Or… maybe I have and just don’t count the situations as difficulties because I know God is on the throne, in control, and that He has whatever is going on. To choose a Scripture though, I’ll say 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
I love that verse! If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be and why?
I would want to have say Henry Buckmeyer. He is the patriarch of my Texas Romance Family Saga, the hero in book one, father and honorary father in book two, and grandfather in the rest of the series. In the “Texas Companion Books” that has stories of ancestors and descendants of the original characters, he is a great-grandfather!
In the Family Saga, I wept as I typed when he passed in 1885 and broke down again trying to read it at our writers’ group. I was simply delighted to bring him back as a visitor in 1866 to Dallas where he showed as a character witness for the man who’d been murdered in DUPLICITY at The Lowell House. He is in the second mystery book as well SKULLDUGGERY in the Sulphur River Bottoms!
If we were to peek at your nightstand/coffee table/counter/kitchen table, what interesting things would we find?
Nightstand? I keep Burt’s Bees lip balm, a back scratcher, and there’s a small (two inch or less) ceramic squirrel perched in the lamp base.
On my Kitchen counter? I recently brought out a green glass cake platter, and I stack all sorts of fruit on it with some grapes hanging down! In October, we just started having fruit smoothies for supper a couple of times a week, and this kept it all easy to reach and looks like a magazine picture!

On my table . . . Almost always there’s a Quirkle game because Ron and I play it at every meal. We keep all the scores for each game to see who wins the month—then the year! We’re both quite competitive) So all those score sheets are there. Also my Apple Cider Vinegar and the enhanced water flavor squirt bottle lives there so I can whip me up a quick drink from a glass of iced water
I don’t have a coffee table. 😊
It’s time for a fun girls’ weekend, and you can only invite authors to attend. Who would you pick and why?
Heather Blanton because she lives so far away in North Carolina, and I never get to see her. Karen Witemeyer and Shannon Vannatter because I write regularly on their blog posts Petticoats & Pistols and Inkslingers, respectively, and we’re good friends who rarely get together! Danni Roan is a traveling friend who’s visited The Peaceable (my home) a couple of times, and it’s always good to see her. Oh, and Amy Lillard just has to come. She’ll keep us all in stitches! I know I am no doubt forgetting to invite many wonderful author friends I love!
Great choices! What are you working on next?
The next book I hope to release is THEN JUDGMENT, a Biblical fiction that covers the three days Jesus did NOT spend in the tomb! Ron and I love digging into the scriptures and seeing what new morsels Holy Spirit will reveal to us. Our stories in this genre adhere strictly to His story, but it will probably be very different from anything you’ve ever though or heard! Still, though, it sticks like Gorilla glue to the Holy Word we love!
That sounds so interesting. Thank you so much for chatting with me today Caryl!
Thank you again for the invitation to spend a little time with you and your readers today, Jessica! You are a blessing!
