Is Love Strong Enough to Overcome the Walls They Hide Behind? When her former fiancé appears, he threatens to unravel the peaceful independence she has worked so hard to achieve after their relationship failed. Montgomery Chandler has moved to NOAA headquarters in Newport, Oregon to make new, happier memories for his children after his wife died of a lingering illness. Their home in Seattle held nothing but the whispers of their earlier lives. Starting over will help all of them heal, but Monty is resolved not to risk love again. When the handsome widower enrolls his hurting children at the school where Claire teaches, her determination to remain uninvolved vanishes at the whim of a snowstorm. This family needs her expertise. Patricia Lee certainly knows how to write heartwarming fiction that grabs you and doesn’t want to let go. Her characters are charming, and yet have something about them that needs some fixing. Claire and Monty are no exception. I do have to say, there’s something about a single, widowed dad that just gets to me. Honestly, I think the kids stole some of the scenes in this book – Lee does such a fantastic job of writing these characters! I loved seeing them with Claire. As a teacher, she of course has a knack for dealing with children from different backgrounds, but I think it was her compassionate side that really shined. She truly cared for them and their well being.

While I am sad to see such a touching series come to an end, I am so glad that I was able to read these wonderful stories. I will be looking for other books by Patricia Lee in the future. If you’re looking for a sweet, encouraging pick-me-up story, then this is the one for you! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

For both of the characters—Rudy Taylor in An Anchor on Her Heart and for Montgomery Chandler in A Kite on the Wind—I had the first hand experiences of my son, a marine biologist, who spent a tour on a fishing vessel in Alaska. He had to complete training in Seattle to make the team that went to Dutch Harbor, Alaska. My son says I picked his memory clean. But I am much indebted to him for sharing his experiences and what he learned from his training to make the stories real.

I discovered the plight of a sunken boat in a newspaper article which provided the scene for Montgomery’s jaunt to Kodiak to help in the search. I also relied on contacts with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) personnel who directed me to their blog site and to their website which describes in detail what they do.

For Claire’s character I needed an ailment that would affect a child with the hope of a cure. When I discovered polycystic kidney disease and the PKD website I asked my Facebook friends if they knew someone with the disease. I was introduced to Rory Wold, who not only had had the disease, had suffered through its progression, and had been given a kidney that saved his life, but who had a daughter who had acquired it through his genetics. His experience made Fallyn’s ailment come alive.
