Release Date: October, 2015

highlandsIntrospection–this place invites it. I’ve never allowed myself the time to pause and get to know myself. My father taught me it was weak. Focus on the prize–eyes off yourself. The goal matters. You are just the instrument to get you there.

Here… Is this what that goal was and I never knew it? The peaks above, the trees that stand tall beside me as if my own personal bodyguards.

I am alive–maybe for the first time in my life–and I think it’s because I’m dead.

A Journey of Dreams

Welcome to a new world: the world of Highlands.

When Tony Frazier arrives in Highlands, he must come to grips with a world that embraces birth defects as beautiful and to be celebrated–even those easily corrected. Balancing the beauty of utter acceptance and the wisdom of when to alter the “workmanship of God” creates tension between Tony and the Highlanders.

The Journey of Dreams series explores themes in the Christian life from a different perspective–from a world that can’t exist anywhere but in the dreams of the people who live there.

My Perspective

Leave it to Chautona to totally take time away from my day. How? By simply writing a book. Every single book of hers that I read sucks me in and doesn’t allow time for the outside world. You would think that by now I have learned that when Chautona’s name is on the cover, I need to carve out some serious reading time. This book is no different. I read it all at once, while the outside world just continued without me. Here’s the thing, yes this story is different. Yes, it’s a little bit imaginative. Okay, a lot imaginative. But as you are getting caught up in Tony’s world, and how he’s going to get by and and grow in this new world of his, you see how this very story can apply to our own lives. And that is why I love Chautona’s book. They make you think. They make you question how deep your faith is. They make you take a second glance at how you’re living and if you’re living for the Lord.

Tony needed to become the man God wanted him to be, but isn’t that the same for all of us? The only difference is that Tony got to do it in this brand new world, and we have to do it here on earth. Yes, there are some heavy topics presented as well, but let’s think about it. Aren’t we surrounded by these very same topics, some a little closer to home than others? Of course we are. I applaud Chautona for her willingness to write the hard stuff. To present real people in real situations. She doesn’t sugar coat it, and as Christians we need that in our lives. Heaviness aside, Chautona’s quirky, fun, and uplifting writing will put a smile on your face, give you a laugh here and there, and speak to your heart. The exact things I want from every novel I read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorbale review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It was a great book! Hopefully you’ll get the opportunity to read it.

  2. Thanks for reviewing the book, and I’m so glad you enjoyed Tony’s story. This is one of the few books I’ve actually cried while writing. That doesn’t happen much, but it tugged at my heartstrings. Odd, I’d forgotten about that until now.
